- Members and guests must be enrolled in grades 9-12 and show a Student Photo ID to enter the dance.
- All guests are subject to the same regulations as Elan members.
- Members are responsible for their guest’s behavior at all times.
- Guests must check into the party with the member that has invited them.
- Overnight bags, backpacks, or totes are not allowed.
- An item check is provided for jackets and small purses at each Elan event; however, Elan claims no responsibility for these items.
- Following check-in, attendees must stay until the function is over.
- Doors to the facility will close 30 minutes after the start of the dance.
- Late admission to the party is only allowed following an approval process: email the Party Chair at least 48 hours prior to the event; if approved, provide a copy of the approval email during check-in.
- Early departure is only allowed with a parent in cases of emergency or following an approval process: email the Party Chair at least 48 hours prior to the event; if approved, names will be supplied to the in-charge board member and placed on a list. Anyone leaving early must check-out with the Board Member in Charge.
- No one will be readmitted once they have left the social function.
Conduct and Infractions
- Courteous and respectful behavior is expected of Cotillion members and their guests.
- If a member and/or their guest violates the Elan Rules of Conduct, the member will be issued an infraction slip.
- Members and guests may be subject to being sent home from the party for violations.
- Two infraction slips shall result in termination of membership.
- The severity of the infraction may result in immediate expulsion from any Elan event and/or termination of membership.
- The following behaviors will result in the immediate, permanent termination of the member from Elan Cotillion: possession of a weapon, possession of an illegal drug, or evidence of alcohol consumption.
- If a member’s guest has posession of a weapon, posession of an illegal drug, or evidence of alcohol consumption, the member will receive an infraction document stating the loss of his/her membership for one calendar year from the date of the event. The member may reapply to Elan Cotillion after one calendar year from the event.
- Possession and/or consumption of any tobacco product, e-cigarette, alcohol or drugs are strictly prohibited at any Elan event.
- Posession of a weapon, acts of rudeness, sexually explicit behavior, and physical violence are strictly prohibited at any Elan event.
- Gum chewing is not allowed at any Elan event.
- Any damage caused by a member or his/her guest will be the responsibility of that member and his/her parents.
Attire
General Guidelines for Themed Attire: Tennis shoes are allowed at all social dances. Dresses and skirts must be appropriate length. Spaghetti straps, strapless tops, and necklines must be modest and unrevealing. “Cut out” styles must ensure modesty and be appropriate in every way. Bare midriffs are prohibited.
Snowball attire is semi-formal and the following guidelines apply:
Boys: slacks, shirt with a collar, belt, and tie. Jackets are optional. Tennis shoes allowed.
Girls: pants, dresses or skirts. Tennis shoes allowed.
Members and guests are expected to dress as indicated on the party invitation.
Inappropriate attire can result in denied entry to the party.
Rule of thumb: If in doubt, just don’t wear it.
Chaperones
- Prior to the first dance of each season, select families will receive a link from the Chaperone Chair to schedule their shift. Failure to select a shift will result in one being assigned.
- If a parent cannot attend their chaperone shift, it is the parent’s responsibility to find a substitute.
- If a parent does not show up for the assigned chaperone duty, the child will not be allowed to attend the next Elan Cotillion dance.
- Chaperones are to report any disciplinary problems to the board member and are not to discipline members.
- Chaperones should have nametags on at all times.
- If you have more than one child in Cotillion, you could be asked to chaperone more than once per season.
- An email reminder will be sent by the Chaperone Chair prior to the event.
