Junior Cotillion Sessions and Dance Parties


Elan Junior Cotillion hosts dance and etiquette sessions as well as three parties each season. The schedule of events and dance party invitations are emailed to members. Members attend a required number of sessions to retain membership for the following year. The parties are optional and members are encouraged to bring one guest and provide the guest registration form at check-in. Please review the following sections for an overview of our policies and procedures.

  • Requirements

    • Members of Junior Cotillion are required to attend a pre-determined number of dance and etiquette sessions each season to retain membership.
    • Attendance at the Spring Roundup Session counts towards the requirements. 
    • Attendance at the social dances/parties is optional and not required for membership.
    • Members that do not attend the required number of dance/etiquette sessions will be ineligible for membership in the following year. 
  • Scheduling

    • Dance and etiquette sessions are held exclusively at Drusilla Ballroom on Jefferson Highway.
    • Sessions are one hour long with dates and times announced each year.
    • The schedule will be posted online and emailed to parents prior to the cotillion season.
    • Instruction is provided by grade level; however, a student may attend a session other than their own grade level with prior approval from a Junior Cotillion Advisor.
  • Dance and Etiquette Session Procedures

    • Sessions are for members only, no guests allowed. 
    • Carpool use is mandatory when entering and exiting the venue. Parents may not park to drop off or pick up members. Drivers and members must obey the law enforcement officers at all times. Failure to follow carpool procedures will result in the issuance of an infraction.
    • Members are required to sign-in for each session.
    • Cell phones must be checked at the desk prior to signing in.
    • Prompt attendance is expected; sign-in closes 10 minutes after the beginning of the session. 
    • Gum is prohibited. 
    • Participants must folllow the dress code and the code of conduct outlined in the Elan Cotillion Handbook and summarized below.
  • Attire

    Dance and Etiquette Sessions:


    Not allowed:

    • Jeans (any color) and shorts (including rompers)
    • Athletic attire 
    • Tennis shoes/athletic shoes/flip flops
    • Hats 

    Girls attire:

    • Pants, dress, or skirt required. 
    • Hemlines should fall three inches above the knee or longer.
    • Necklines must be modest and non-revealing.
    • Undergarments must not be visible.
    • Dress shoes or sandals suitable for dancing is required. 

    Boys attire:

    • Slacks, shirt with a collar, belt, and dress shoes required. 
    • Shirts must be tucked in at all times.

    Members not in appropriate attire will be issued an infraction notice.


    Social Dances:


    General Guidelines for Themed Attire: Tennis shoes are allowed at all social dances. Dresses and skirts must be appropriate length. Spaghetti straps, strapless tops, and necklines must be modest and unrevealing. “Cut out” styles must ensure modesty and be appropriate in every way. Bare midriffs are prohibited. 


    Snowball attire is semi-formal and the following guidelines apply:

    • Boys: slacks, shirt with a collar, belt, and tie. Jackets are optional. Tennis shoes allowed. 
    • Girls: pants, dresses, or skirts. Tennis shoes allowed. 

    Members and guests are expected to dress as indicated on the party invitation.


    Inappropriate attire can result in denied entry to the party. 


    Rule of thumb: If in doubt, just don’t wear it.

  • Party Check In & Guests

    • Members are allowed to bring one guest for each party and must complete a guest registration form.
    • Junior Cotillion members and guests do NOT need to show ID to enter. 
    • All attendees must be in the grade associated with the dance. 
    • All guests are subject to the same regulations as Elan members. 
    • Members are responsible for their guest’s behavior at all times.
    • Guests must check into the party with the member that has invited them.
    • Overnight bags, backpacks, or totes are not allowed.
    • An item check is provided for jackets and small purses at each Elan event; however, Elan claims no responsibility for these items. 
    • Following check-in, attendees must stay until the function is over.
    • Doors to the facility will close 30 minutes after the start of the dance.
    • Late admission to the party is only allowed following an approval process: email the Party Chair at least 48 hours prior to the event; if approved, provide a copy of the approval email during check-in.
    • Early departure is not allowed except with a parent in cases of emergency or following an approval process: email the Party Chair at least 48 hours prior to the event; if approved, names will be supplied to the in-charge board member and placed on a list. Anyone leaving early must check-out with the Board Member in Charge.
    • No one will be readmitted once they have left the social function.
  • Conduct and Infractions

    • Courteous and respectful behavior is expected of Cotillion members and their guests.
    • If a member and/or their guest violates the Elan Rules of Conduct, the member will be issued an infraction slip.
    • Members and guests may be subject to being sent home from the party for violations. 
    • Two infraction slips shall result in termination of membership. 
    • The severity of the infraction may result in immediate expulsion from any Elan event and/or termination of membership.
    • The following behaviors will result in the immediate, permanent termination of the member from Elan Cotillion: possession of a weapon, possession of an illegal drug, or evidence of alcohol consumption.
    • If a member’s guest has posession of a weapon, posession of an illegal drug, or evidence of alcohol consumption, the member will receive an infraction document stating the loss of his/her membership for one calendar year from the date of the event. The member may reapply to Elan Cotillion after one calendar year from the event.
    • Vaping, e-cigarettes, and any other inhalant devices are strictly prohibited at any Elan Cotillion event. 
    • Gum chewing is not allowed at any Elan event.
    • Any damage caused by a member or his/her guest will be the responsibility of that member and his/her parents.
  • Chaperones

    • Prior to the first session of each season, select families will receive a link from the Chaperone Chair to schedule their shift. Failure to select a shift will result in one being assigned.
    • If a parent cannot attend their chaperone shift, it is the parent’s responsibility to find a substitute.
    • Chaperones will be given a time to arrive and check in with one of the in-charge board members to receive assignment.
    • If a parent does not show up for the assigned chaperone duty, the child will not be allowed to attend the next Elan Cotillion dance.
    • Parents are to assist the dance instructor in any way that will facilitate the dance session being conducted in an orderly and productive manner.
    • Chaperones are to report any disciplinary problems to the board member and are not to discipline members. 
    • Chaperones should have nametags on at all times.
    • If you have more than one child in Cotillion, you could be asked to chaperone more than once per season.
    • An email reminder will be sent by the Chaperone Chair prior to the event.
