Elan Code of Conduct

  • Check-In

    • Once a member and guest have checked into an Elan function, they must stay until the function is over.
    • Doors to the facility will close 30 minutes after the start of the dance.
    • Sr. Cotillion members and their guests are required to show school IDs for admittance. Pictures of school IDs on smartphones will be accepted.
    • Late admission to the party is only allowed when prior permission is granted by the Party Chair. Requests for late admission should be made by email at least 48 hours prior to the event. The Party Chair will respond to the request via email and a copy of that email must be presented at the door of the event for admittance.
    • Members and guests may not leave a party early except with a parent in cases of emergency or if they have requested and received approval for early departure from the Party Chair 48 hours prior to the event. When the Party Chair approves early departure requests, names will be supplied to the in-charge board member and placed on a list.
    • No one will be readmitted once they have left the social function.
    • A coat check is provided for jackets and small purses at each Elan event for members’ convenience. However, Elan claims no responsibility for these items. Overnight bags, backpacks or totes are not allowed. Cotillion shall not be responsible in any way whatsoever for any item of any person that is checked in at any social function.
    • Student Members and/or their guests are discouraged from taking anything of value to any social function. However, Elan claims no responsibility for these items. Overnight bags, backpacks or totes are not allowed.
  • Guests

    • Members are allowed to bring one guest for each party.
    • All guests are subject to the same regulations as Elan members. Members are responsible for their guest’s behavior at all times.
    • Members are allowed to bring one guest to each dance. A guest registration form must be filled out and turned in at each dance.
    • Guests must arrive and check-in with member.
    • Favors are available to all members and their guests.
    • Members and guests will need a Student Photo ID to enter the dance.
    • Junior Cotillion guests must be in corresponding grade level of the dance. Senior Cotillion guests must be in high school.
  • Conduct

    • Courteous and respectful behavior is expected of Cotillion members and their guests.
    • All guests are subject to the same regulations as Cotillion members.
    • Cotillion members will be held responsible for the behavior of their guests. The Code of Conduct will be
    • reacknowledged by member/parents prior to the purchase of any guest tickets.
    • Gum chewing is not allowed at any Elan event.
    • Possession and/or consumption of any tobacco product, e-cigarette, alcohol or drugs are STRICTLY prohibited at any Elan function.
    • Acts of rudeness, sexually explicit behavior, and physical violence are STRICTLY prohibited at any Elan function.
    • The possession of any type of weapon is strictly prohibited at all Elan functions.
    • Anyone suspected to be in possession of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs or to is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be retained and evaluated by on-site law enforcement and EMS. If deemed necessary by EMS the individual may be taken to a hospital at the responsibility of the individual’s parents. An Elan Board Member will call a parent to come pick up the member (or guest, if applicable) immediately. If the person found is not an Elan member, the member will still be responsible for the guest’s actions.
    • Each Student Member and his/her parent(s) and/or guardian waive any and all claims for damages in contract and/or tort and/or otherwise agree to hold Elan Cotillion, its Board, officers, chairman, administrators, advisors, chaperones, members, and agents harmless for any accidents, injuries and/or damages which are and/or might be suffered and/or incurred by the member and/or his/her parent(s) and/or guardian and/or his/her guest which occur at any and all events under any and all circumstances except where Elan Cotillion actually knew or should have known of a dangerous condition or circumstance and failed to take timely action to stop and/or eliminate the condition or circumstance.
    • Any damage caused by a member or his/her guest will be the responsibility of that member and his/her parents. 
  • Conduct Infractions

    • If a member or their guest is found in violation of Elan rules of conduct, the member will be issued an infraction slip and the member and guest may be subject to being sent home from the party. Three infraction slips shall result in termination of membership. The Elan Board will maintain a record of all infraction slips. Depending on the seriousness of the action, the member may be expelled and the guest may be banned from any Elan event for a period.
    • The following behaviors by a member will result in the permanent termination of the member from Elan Cotillion. The member will be notified by an Elan Board Member to pick up their child from the event and the member will receive a termination document. 

    a. Possession of a weapon

    b. Possession of an illegal drug

    c. Failure to pass a sobriety test given by law enforcement and/or EMS

    • If a member’s guest fails to pass a sobriety test given by on-site law enforcement officers, the member will receive an infraction document stating the loss of his/her membership for one calendar year from the date of the event. The member’s parents will be phoned by an Elan Board Member and the guest’s parents will be notified to pick their child up from the event. The member will have to immediately leave the dance with a parent also. The member may reapply to Elan Cotillion after one calendar year from the event.
    • Vaping/e-cigarettes, etc. is strictly prohibited at any Elan Cotillion event. If a member is found to be in possession of a vaping device, the member will receive an infraction, the device will be confiscated and disposed of by a board member. The member’s parent will be called and will have to pick up the member. On the second offense of possession or usage of a vaping device at a social event, membership will be revoked. If a guest of a member is found to be in possession of or utilizing a vaping device, the device will be confiscated and disposed of by a board member.
    • The member and guest will be asked to leave the event via parent transportation.
    • • Any damage caused by a member or his/her guest will be the responsibility of that member and his/her parents.
